5 Fast Facts about the DPS Attendance Campaign

The Dayton Public Schools continue to make progress toward better attendance. Below are five attendance highlights:

The percentage of students who are considered on track with their attendance has now increased by 4.51%

This increase means approximately 555 more students are now on track compared to the same time last school year.

11 schools have increased the number of students who are on track by more than 5% compared to last school year.

Belle Haven (+6.05%), Charity Adams (+7.75%), Kiser (+5.34%), Louise Troy (+13.70%), Roosevelt (+7.19%), Ruskin (+5.84%), Edwin Joel Brown (+5.50%), Wogaman (+9.45%), Ponitz CTC (+9.46%), Dunbar (+6.04%), Meadowdale (+5.78%).

Dunbar Early College High School maintains the most-improved average daily attendance rate, an increase of 4.31% compared to last year.

Overall, 18 DPS schools have increased average daily attendance rates compared to the same time last year.

The day after Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was the most successful BePresent Day to date.

Student attendance on the day after MLK Day increased by 6.22% compared to the same day last year. That means about 766 more students were in school this year.

The district has implemented “BePresent Days” on days with historically low attendance, such as holidays that students do not have off and the days before and after breaks.

More communication than usual is shared leading up to these days to remind students and parents that school is in session. Students may receive incentives — like movie tickets, sporting event tickets or surprise ice cream parties — for being in school on BePresent Days.

Belle Haven Elementary students were rewarded for having the best attendance on the last district BePresent Day.

Every student at Belle Haven received a special attendance achievement pencil Thursday, February 6 for having the best attendance on the most recent district BePresent Day (Tuesday, February 4). More than 94% of Belle Haven students attended school on this day.
